About ten minutes, once. You'll turn an ordinary tablet into a focused place to read — Verafy as the only app your child can open.
You don't need anything fancy. An inexpensive Walmart ONN tablet works great. Any modern Android tablet will do.
During first-time setup, sign the tablet in with a normal adult or teen account — so Verafy has full camera and microphone access for read-aloud and the session photo. (A restricted child account blocks those, which Verafy needs to verify the reading.)
Open the tablet's browser, go to your Verafy app page, and add it to the home screen — it installs like an app and works offline after that.
Turn on Android's built-in screen pinning and pin Verafy. Now the tablet opens to Verafy and stays there — no feeds, no store, no exits — until you unpin it with your code. This is what keeps it a single-purpose reading device.
Pinning steps vary by Android version — the screenshots and walkthrough below are captured on the actual ONN.
